NOTE TO PARISHIONERS

PARISH FINANCES

I am very glad to report that Karen Law has been co-opted by the Select Vestry as an honorary treasurer of our parish. The Vestry is able to make such decisions as are necessary by email, post or telephone. This development follows David McMorran’s standing down from the role for personal reasons, and we are grateful to David for his very willing help over recent months. Karen and honorary treasurer John Williamson, who will shortly be leaving Newcastle, are now working together to effect a smooth transition to Karen during June. I am also very glad to report that Barbra Gibson has volunteered to do bank lodgements for Karen and that Jillian Aulds has agreed to assist Karen as Gift Aid Secretary. In the absence of normal church services there have not been the usual collections and the honorary treasurers and I will shortly be writing with advice to Freewill Offering envelope subscribers about this.

ST JOHN’S TO REMAIN CLOSED FOR THE TIME BEING

Following consultation with members of the Select Vestry, members decided not to proceed with opening St John’s for individual prayer at this time. This decision was taken in light of the extensive precautious that would have been required following advice from the Diocese, not least in connection with cleaning, hygiene and social distancing. Of course, we all look forward to returning to church in due course but it does seem that it will be some time yet and that, as and when it is becomes possible, considerable precautions will be necessary for the foreseeable future.

In the meantime, I trust that you will continue to find the online worship helpful and that those who do not have Internet connection are able to tune in to broadcast services.

EMAIL

So that we can stay in touch with parishioners more easily, if you have an email address and are willing to share it with the parish, please send a message to this effect to our parish email address: newcastle@dromore.anglican.org.

NOTE TO PARISHIONERS

Yesterday, the Northern Ireland Executive announced a partial relaxation of Government restrictions on churches, including permission to open for individual prayer "provided they can adhere to all social distancing and public hygiene requirements". Parishes are to be given advice about this by the Diocese. When that advice has been received, it will be considered by the Select Vestry which can make decisions on parish matters by email or letter. An update will follow in a future post here in due course. In the meantime, please ring me if you have any queries or, indeed, if the parish can assist you in any other way at this time.
